feet hurt?

Q: Why do my feet always hurt?
A: Most foot pain is directly correlated to the type of shoes you wear. The most common problem is plantar fasciitis, which can be caused by a multitude of things. One of the main causes is from not wearing shoes at all. Another cause is from shoes that don’t have an anatomic foot bed. An anatomically correct foot bed cups the heels, gives supports to the arch which helps keep your feet from pronating. It also helps to eliminate hot spots by distributing the weight of your body evenly over your entire foot. The cupped heel pushes muscle and fat under your heel bone creating you own natural heel cushion. Once you have plantar fasciitis it is very difficult to cure. The most important thing to remember is not to go barefoot, try wearing a house shoe or slipper that has a cupped heel and arch support.

Q: How do I know if my footwear has an anatomically correct foot bed?
A: The best example is to look at the shape of a Birkenstock foot bed. You’ll see it has a cupped heel, high arch and metatarsal support. A few brands that are anatomically correct would be: Earth, Birkenstock, Finn Comfort, and Dansko. Most shoes, don’t have an anatomically correct foot bed, which would require an additional after-market insole such as Arch molds or orthodic. By using an aftermarket insole, you use the shoe for cushion and the foot bed for support.

Q: Is there an alternative to surgery to relieve back, knee, and hip pain? It seems like such a drastic step, and there’s no guarantee it will help.
A: If you do suffer from back, hip or knee pain there may be an alternative to expensive surgery. Fit to be Tied carries brands like Earth and MBT which not only look great they can actually make you feel better! The truth is most shoes, even flats, elevate the heel slightly which causes us to slouch unconsciously the entire time we are on our feet. This aggravates existing back problems and potentially creates new problems. Since the late 1960’s Earth shoes’ patented “Kalso” heel actually does the opposite by lowering the heel 3.7 degrees. This causes wearers to stand correctly with their back straight and shoulders back. Other benefits that these shoes have to offer include easier breathing, posture correction, and less pressure on various nerves including the sciatic. In addition, Earth’s superior arch support and heel cup also helps with plantar fasciitis.

MBT shoes' main feature called the "Masai Heel Sensor" also gives wearers a similar posture improvement. This cushion in combination with a rocking, non-flexing sole not only relieves pain in the back it reduces stress by 19% on hips and knees according to various university studies. By wearing MBTs our customers have experienced significant pain relief and have been able to put off hip and knee surgeries. Therefore, if you are plagued with joint pain or facing invasive surgery, consider what shoes you are wearing. Earth and MBT may be a very viable and less expensive investment opportunity.

Q: Why does my foot feel like I'm stepping on a nail or a sharp rock.
A: You probably have a Morton's Neuroma, which is a painful condition, also referred to as a "pinched nerve" or a nerve tumor. It is a benign growth of nerve tissue frequently found between the third and fourth toes that brings on pain, a burning sensation, tingling, or numbness between the toes and in the ball of the foot.

Those suffering from the condition often find relief by stopping their walk, taking off their shoe, and rubbing the affected area.

Q: How do I cure my neuroma?
A: Wear shoes with plenty of room for the toes to move, low heels, and laces or buckles that allow for width adjustment. Most European Comfort shoes have very wide toe boxes.

High heels should be avoided whenever possible because they place undo strain on the forefoot and can contribute to a number of foot problems.

Resting the foot and massaging the affected area can temporarily alleviate neuroma pain. Use an ice pack to help to dull the pain and improve comfort. For simple, undeveloped neuromas, a pair of thick-soled shoes with a wide toe box is often adequate treatment to relieve symptoms, allowing the condition to diminish on its own. More advanced Neuromas often require a metatarsal pad in the middle or on the sides of the metatarsals. They could also require surgery as a last resort.

Shoe Brands that work very well to help cure the nueuroma are Dansko, MBT, Earth Shoes, Finn comfort and Birkenstocks to name a few.
